Brentwood is one of the cities that make up Contra Costa County, California, United States. It resides in the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area. With a population of 51,481 as of 2010, it has increased 121 percent according to the 2000 census. Like many East Bay towns in Contra Costa County, Mount Diablo towers over and is visible from Brentwood. Brentwood sits on the alluvial plain of the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. Brentwood is neighbored by the city of Antioch and Oakley. Brentwood as a community started in the late 19th century, and is still famous in the Bay Area for its agricultural products, primarily its cherries, peaches and corn. Much of the agriculture, old farms and orchards that made Brentwood famed have been replaced by residential housing because of the rapid suburban development and urban sprawl. This expansion of residential growth in Brentwood has grown at a rate of 21 percent between 2010 and 2016. This expansion has grown its sister cities as well such as Pittsbburg, Bay Point, Concord, Walnut Creek and even Dublin.
